About Jamal and Mountain Spirit Journeys

Mountain Spirit Journeys was started by Jamal Lee-Elkin in 2007 and is dedicated to using the power of nature to help people discover the strengths and resources within themselves for growth and change.

Jamal has been exploring the wilderness and the soul since 1992.  Jamal graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1998 with a degree in Outdoor Education.  From there he followed his dream of climbing and guiding.  His guiding career has taken him across the world from Maine and New Hampshire to Alaska and South America.  He is a Registered Maine Guide.

Each year, Jamal spends significant time alone in the back country.  This has left its mark on Jamal.   This perspective makes a trip or shamanic session with Jamal a unique and powerful experience. 

In addition, Jamal has studied with a number of teachers.  He completed the Two Year Apprenticeship Program in Advanced Shamanism and Shamanic Healing with Allie Knowlton and Evelyn Rysdyk of Spirit Passages.  Jamal studied Reiki with Gianna Settin of Avanti Healing Arts and Heather-Rose Ryan of Mysterious Mountain.  Jamal has also taken trainings from the Foundation for Shamanic Studies and Fredda Paul (Passamaquoddy plant healer).

Jamal, and his wife Joan, make their and home in the mountains of Western Maine.  This is also the base for Mountain Spirit Journeys. This area is blessed to have an abundance of forests, rivers, lakes, marshes and bogs.  Here, a canoe trip or a walk in the woods offers an encounter with a moose, eagle, fox, coyote, deer, humming bird, broad wing hawk, tree frog and countless other animals. 

The quiet is one of the best gifts of the Mountain Spirit Journeys home base.  The homestead is away from the noise and light pollution of civilization and has solar power for electricity.

In addition to their house, a cabin is maintained for healing sessions, classes and group gatherings.  The house serves as a dining hall and as a pack room for trips and expeditions.  Outside, a fire pit that has a view of Mt. Washington and the White Mountains is set up for ceremonies and celebrations.
